Dominic Fritz was elected as the mayor of Timișoara in the fall of 2020. Born in Germany, he first came to Timișoara in 2003, when, after finishing high school, he worked as a volunteer in a children's home in the Freidorf neighborhood. Before entering local politics in Timișoara, Dominic Fritz worked for over 10 years in the German public administration. In 2009, after studying political and administrative sciences in Germany, France, and United Kingdom, he began his professional career as an advisor at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). Between 2016 and 2019, he served as the chief of staff to the former President of Germany and former IMF director, Horst Köhler, in Berlin. In this position, he collaborated with many national and international institutions and authorities such as the United Nations, the African Development Bank, or the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
