Timisoara, European Capital of Culture for the year 2023, will draw its transformative year to a close with an Event spanning from the 7th to the 10th of December. This multifaceted celebration seeks to encapsulate the richness and impact of the cultural journey undertaken throughout the year.
Throughout the four-day event, we aim to reflect on the valuable practices cultivated during the European Capital of Culture year. The curated performances, the intellectual discourse, and the sound acts will collectively articulate the foundational principles that have defined Timisoara's cultural identity: resilience, open and forward-looking spirit. This retrospective gaze is not merely a look back but an envisioning of how these principles will continue to shape the city's trajectory in the future.
The celebration's goal is to highlight a set of valuable practices that have been exercised throughout the cultural programme, which have fundamentally marked the artistic and social ecosystem, articulating a set of principles on which to build in the future. At the same time, these vectors of change will give a decisive impetus to the urban regeneration movement, which is in full swing, and the celebration is the best moment to affirm the continued support of these vital creative energies for the city.
As we bid farewell to the year 2023, the Closing Event aspires to be more than a conclusion; it is a resounding affirmation of Timisoara's commitment to sustaining the creative energies that have invigorated its cultural and urban landscape.
Join us in this collective moment of reflection, celebration, and anticipation for the vibrant cultural tapestry that lies ahead for Timisoara.

Since 2016, since winning the title of European Capital of Culture, the cultural programme Timișoara 2023 is the fruit of the work of cultural operators. ZONA & is a performance program featured in the closing event of Timișoara 2023, hosted by MX – “Corneliu Mikloși” Museum of Public Transport from December 8 to 10, 2023. Curated by Corina Oprea and Magda Radu, in collaboration with Ileana Pintilie, the event revisits the Zona Festival, a significant cultural phenomenon in Timișoara during the 1990s. Artists like SERAFINE1369, ILYICH, Manuel Pelmuș, Dan Perjovschi, Lia Perjovschi, Elvisey Pisica and QUARTO contribute, showcasing performance as a means of resistance, liberation, and exploration of social boundaries. The program aims to connect Timișoara's cultural history with a planetary perspective on contemporary performance, emphasizing its relevance and resilience amid societal changes. The event includes an exhibition, performances, and the launch of a publication providing detailed documentation and analysis of the Zona Festival. ZONA & presents a unique opportunity to reflect on the transformative power of performance in Timișoara's cultural narrative.
